It is the specialty of dentistry which deals with the assessment of patients’ overall health status and its impact on oral health care. The goal is to develop the dental student’s knowledge and skill in comprehensive patient evaluation and diagnosis. The department educates the future dentists and dental specialists through its Undergraduate Bachelor’s of Dental Science (BDS) course as well as post graduate Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) professional degree. The educational program of the department is comprised of a broad range of didactic and clinical activities catering to undergraduate and post-graduate students. We form the cornerstone of the CDC (Cancer Detection Centre) which is the first ever centre in India started in an institution for the welfare of the community.
The first year subject of dental anatomy, histology and embryology helps the students to acquire skills in identification and carving of teeth, age estimation using plaster models of different age groups, and microscopic identification of normal oral tissues.
Second Year and Third Year:
The students are introduced to the subject of Oral and maxillofacial pathology which deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates the causes, processes and effects of these diseases. The students are taught through a series of lectures, slide demonstrations, hard and soft tissue specimens and study models.
Post graduate curriculum:
The post graduated curriculum provides extensive training to the students in both general and Oral pathology building upon the prior course knowledge and focusing on the clinical presentation of oral disorders and its diagnosis over a period of three years.
